31 Dec 2013; Revelation

31 Dec 2013 - Revelation

The book of Revelation

This is the book of promises - with only one theme that in all and finally Jesus wins. Of all the reasons to choose Christianity - Revelation is the book that promises a continuation after death.

Using CEFC 2010 sermons as a guide to the study of this book which to most people is difficult to read and understand, I will use it to allow the word to speak to me.

Overall view on the book:
1. Reminders from the King - the letters to the churches - Chapters 1-3, a call for us to return to the King
2. Redemption by the Kings - Chapter 4- 5, so that we might worship Him
3. Rise of the King, the main bulk of the book, Chapter 6-18 which has a lot of wars and wrath, but so that we might still trust Him.
4. Return of the King, Chapter 19, so that we are called to expect Him
5. Reign of the King, Chapter 20-22, a call for us to finally celebrate with Him.

The letters to the Churches has generally 6 parts.
1. It is particular address to a church - specific
2. It encourages with a commendation
3. It has a rebuke
4. It has an exhortation
5. It has a warning
6. It has a promise.

I have the plans of man, but Revelation is about the plans of God - a promise of what is to come and how it should end. The perspective is to do and invest in what will come and what will end.

3 things that is only eternal -  God, word and the soul of man. Therefore this should be what in all works and investment targeted for and it should be the focus of the effort and time while "passing" through this life. Jesus wins - all that is accumulated here will be lost.

As such, invest in my family - that they too see this eternal God.
Invest in the soul of man - gospel and sharing - that they may hear the eternal word
Invest in word and enrich the soul and the things / heartbeat of God.

I uplift the plans of 2014 to you. Let me see the blessings of what I boldly ask - a double portion of my pay besides m wages.

6 Nov 2013; Psalm 71

6 Nov 2013; Psalm 71

A psalm of David crying out to God, his faith cry to God.

I challenge Jo about crying out to God. It shows our need and our dependence on God.

When pressure comes and stress add up, remember our God - cry out to Him.

It is ok to cry out, and so when is the last time I did that? Many years ago.

Our dependence on God shows our faith that we need Him.

Psalm 71: 1 In you, O Lord, do I take refuge.

Further in v13-16, its hows David prayer like the way we pray that promise God the "good" things we will do if we can get out of the situation. But it shows David need for God.

Cry unto God!

31 Oct 2013; Heb 1-2

Heb 1-2

A very detail and argumentative chapters describing Jesus, in a way to convince believers that Christ is God chosen only son.

In a similar way, it points Jesus that He was sent by God for you  and me, offering hope in salvation.

In a world of boom and doom, good and bad times, busy and worries, He is the hope. For without him, your struggles is the result of your labour. It will turn out well or it may not.

Jesus is salvation, the solution God sent to understand us in order for God and Jesus himself to atone our sins. Sin is something like crime in God sight that has to be punish accordingly. Many don't bother, be it in good or bad times. When things in life starts to quiet down, the consequences of sin and eternal death starts to bother. Many waited too late when they retire. Too late.

We cried out to God when things get struck or in bad tines to seek God for an answer. To seek a hope.

Therefore, recognise that Jesus in these Hebrews argument that He is the hope not for bad times, but the hope for death in sins.

Hebrews also pointed that we who understands these things, are called children a child of God. Like the way Jesus took pain to understand human in flesh in order to save us, we are the flesh. We are that flesh that understand the death in sins and through Christ, offer that hope in salvation. Not the hope for bad times. We are the market place ambassador.

Then be like one for Christ. Not like the busy people running from and through good and bad times. Now that agent of hope and be that agent of salvation in good and bad time.

22 Oct; 1 Tim 6

The famous verse about contentment in Got is of great gain.
Paul mentioned a faithful heart in the pursuit of God and not be distracted by the money of the world.

Enough, which this family has. Enough though not having all to spurge on anything without opportunity costs.

The key is about the distraction that occurs when the pursuit of wealth overcome that of the matters of God.

I badly want the simplify of life. Just God, just family, just teaching.. Simple. No tight datelines to meet and get all stress up.

18 Oct 2013; 1 Tim 1-2

18 Oct 2013; 1 Tim 1-2

I read this 2 chapters with Jo. It is also part of bonding time.

we share about being Gentiles and it is by grace that we are called into the kingdom of God.

People pursue all sorts of things, but in the end, miss out God.

As such the importance is to keep God. Saul was a believer of God and pursue what the law requires, but we as gentile did not even pursue the things of God. Of course what he pursue was on the wrong tree - until he knew Jesus.

We may not know that we are going after the wrong tree.

By grace we have been save, and as such no works. The gentiles knew this and can only entered by grace.

God as for me, I need to be IN God and I need a break to do that. Help me to complete what I need and slow down the things of the world so as to pursue the things of God.

9 Oct 2013; Jer 12-14

9 Oct ; Jer 12-14

Two contrasting prayers, two request not to pray.

God hears our prayer. In Jer 14, God told the people to stop praying, he will not want their. He ask Her not to intercede for them. God was very angry. The people stiff neck, like lroparh who cannot change their spots, they kept sinning.

We are always ask to pray and pray more. But this time, god asked them not to.

Did her intercede for them? If yes, he would have been disobient, because god told him not. Do did he? The answer is.   Yes

But did God hear his pray? Next chapter.

Today reading points to a sin of too deep and of no return. There is no room for repentance, only punishment. Have we reach the point? The lament will be that god shuts off. Surely we do not want to come to this stage.

The chance upon chance we are given, be with god.

3 Oct; Jer 1 and 2

3 Oct 2013; Jer 1 and 2
The interesting thing about this book is that it is going to fulfill what Isaiah prophesied.

Surprising, the charges God brought against the people is that the people rejected God.
But you said, ‘It is hopeless,
for I have loved foreigners,
and after them I will go.’
Jer 2:25

It is a open declaration that I have forsaken God!

In this 2 chapters, God reminds the people about what God has done, and warned them about going after other false God.

It serves as another reminder that God wants us back and warns about going wayward after the things of this world.

The people of Judah based their trust in Assyria and Egypt, but they will not help in the end. In the same way, trust not in my knowledge, nor my abilities in making monies. What is the purposes? How have I use what I have and can do for God?

Remember your God, let not the works over shadow God.

2 Oct 2013; Isa 66 and Psalm 74

2 Oct 2013; Isa 66 and Psalm 74

In a contrast, Isa 66 speaks about a new Jerusalem, about a God who jealously defends himself  and about making all things new.

Psalm 74, speaks from a man perspective about the destruction that takes place and question God why He allows these to takes place and even allows the temple to be destroyed.

If we read just Psalm 74, we laments at the evil of the world, we question where is God and why all these has occurred.

I just finished reading the book of Isaiah. God warns of the destruction. he permits these evil. But He also promised the return of the king.

In good times, nobody will laments about like Psalm 74. Even the Godly has nothing to cry out to God about. I bad times, why o why?

But the God, is a faithful God. There is no way he can stands evil, so do not test the Lord your God. The God we served has no room for evil.

I mentioned, soon I will be called uncle. What is left are the remaining years. I do not want to see destruction in the remaining years. I know my god is faithful, and as He said in Isaiah, unless the Lord gives us a remnant, else we will be like Sodom and Gomorrah.

Let the remaining times be spent serving the Lord and purposefully pursuing the things of God.

I have to tone down, to slow down, I have enough. The Lord has provided for the good years, let no evil come (because we have no God) to destroy what we have. In Isa 66, let our offering be pleasing, let our actions be pleasing. Endure for the new heaven and earth.

26 Sep 2013; Isa 45

26 Sep 2013; Isa 45

As I read and listen to Isa 45-46, the repetition "that you may know that I am God" can be heard again.

Yesterday, I write about biblical identity, that is knowing who I am.
“I will go before you
and level the exalted places,
I will break in pieces the doors of bronze
and cut through the bars of iron,
I will give you the treasures of darkness
and the hoards in secret places,
that you may know that it is I, the Lord,
the God of Israel, who call you by your name.

This was one passage that I use to memorize from Isa 45:2-3

I have a lot of work to do, so much to complete that is not complete - but the Lord will go before me, break bronze doors and cut bars of iron. The reward - treasures. It is the Lord who call you by name, your name.

This is the God that I serve, and who am I is having a God that goes before me, break through the defenses of the enemies and get me the reward. A God who calls me by my name.

Biblical identity should lead to biblical faith. Knowing who you are, have I put my trust in my God who can and who will do?

I stop here, faith - cannot be seen. As a child trust his father, why have I not put faith in the God who call and does all for me?

Lord, let me learn and re learn about putting faith in you, not doing things in my own strength. I don't call this difficult times, but I remember that last year this time, it is Josef PSLE. And as a father, I teach him, coach him, pray for him...

As a father, I know what to do for my child, make me a child again in God's sight.

25 Sep 2013; Isa 43-45

25 Sep 2013; Isa 43-45

After you know who is God, who is the master of your life, who am I?

If the Lord is your God, that you are a child of God.

Isa 44: 21-22
Remember these things, O Jacob,
and Israel, for you are my servant;
I formed you; you are my servant;
O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.
I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud
and your sins like mist;
return to me, for I have redeemed you.

I have been busy, I have not been seriously seeking God, leaving each other alone.

But the Lord remembers, He remembers me. Because He is faithful, and because He is righteous, He will blot out my sins. So now is all about how am I going to react.

My work helps other people to achieve their goals, in return for a chunk of rewards. But my portion of work should be for God. I am here, but gone tomorrow, the unfinished work here will still be unfinished, but my portion of health, strength and time is best to work on the finish work God has began.

I pray for my work, God grant me strength, that I will not take too much time and recognize that it is you who help me. the portion of reward is therefore yours - what to do with it?

I want to set the rewards aside, but God show me what you want me to do with it.

24 Sep 2013; Isa 43-44

The first thing about theology is about "Who God is".

Isa 44:6: I am the first and I am the last, besides me there is no god

1. He is I am - there is no other ways you can describe God using all the created things and creature
2. He is the first and the last - from the time we as human beings began and to the end, He was there, is there and will be there
3. There is no other who is God - the only true God

This is only theology, but it is for us to understand the god that we Christian profess God.

Understand theology leads us to the next application question - "Who is our alliance?"

Yes, we know God - but is it just a textbook understanding - a fact that we remember? The action is is this God who we preach and act on our alliance - the one God that we call Lord and master. Alliance is also about who is our master.

I must admit that I know who God is - hope not just head knowledge, but God is my Lord - knowing who God is in my heart. I pray that the later part is an integrate part of my life.

I am not young - what is there in God's kingdom that is for me, what does m Master want out of me? Am I just a create being - over in excess in production and failed some quality test and have to be put aside.

Yes, for the moment, but I pray that I can be useful - recycle and reuse.

I end with the following verse to encourage:
 Isa 42:6-9

“I am the LordoI have called you2 in righteousness;
I will take you by the hand and keep you;
I will give you pas a covenant for the people,
qa light for the nations,
rto open the eyes that are blind,
to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
sfrom the prison those who sit in darkness.
I am the Lord; that is my name;
tmy glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to carved idols.
Behold, the former things have come to pass,
uand new things I now declare;
before they spring forth
I tell you of them.”

23 Sep 2013; Isa 43

23 Sep 2013; Isa 43

I just finished reading LKY's book - One man view.

3 points in his personal take away:
a. Discipline
b. Relationship
c. Speaking one language

Isa 43: 10
“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord,
“and amy servant whom I have chosen,
that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am he.
bBefore me no god was formed,
nor shall there be any after me.

LKY has no god, he is his wisdom. I am a witness of God and for God. Why then should I be lacking in a discipline for my God. LKY has a determination to get Singapore afloat, what's mine?

As a witness for God, it is about building relationship, how can then I reached out and if I am to be an effective witness, it is they who know me first and not my God.

The language we have to speak is God's language. How often the word was use? in the family and at work. LKY spoke about countries who succeed like China and Indonesia who uses a common language, what is then my language?

It begins therefore with a discipline - a discipline to read, journal, pray and share for God. What do I want from being discipline? Be a witness for God, a God who called us a servant, a chosen one.

I have been reading the one year bible plan, but not journal, I pray but not much (pray shows our dependency on God and not based on man's wisdom) and have not share (witness).

Witness is also about building relationship with people. They know you so that you have share and they see the God in you.

I am glad that my job permits me the time to reflect and read- now is the time for the disciplines to be consistent. Amen.

10 Sep 2013: Isaiah 6

10 Sep 2013: Isaiah 6

Isaiah 6:8
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for cus?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

What is the response when we see God?

No response; Yea! or "Oh I am going to die"

People with no fear for God will have no response.

As a Christian - Yea!

But the response from Isaiah is that "he is going to die". He knew who God is, a sinner, unworthy, but someone who fear God.

In the picture given to Isaiah is the majesty of God, the layout of his glory. Isaiah knew that holy, that glory of God. What is man?

If we knew that people who has no God will die, what is our response. In chapter 6, God told Isaiah that He is going to destroy the people who has no God.

Isaiah response is "send me". God request is not for these people to be destroyed but send a messenger to these people.

If we knew God, fear him, if we know God recognize his heartbeat.

3 Sep 2013

3 Sep 2013

Col 3:17
Andswhatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, tgiving thanks to God the Father through him.

This is the antidote to greed, to anger, to covetousness, to fear ...

Yes, there is a lot of things to do, but do it in the name of the, the Lord is with us, give thanks and be joyful about it.

On the other hand, how to give thanks, unless you are grateful - it comes from the heart. A simple way is to do the things that brings that thanks, that gratefulness.

I have been reserved, very isolated and task, put that joy in the face when doing the things, that others may see that you are enjoying the things that you. That when they see you and give glory to God.

Col 2:6-7

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding min thanksgiving.

The message is clear, received, walk, rooted, built up and established in the faith.

I have lack in my time alone with God. Habits needs to be cultivated and disciple is make.

These I hope to do:
Read the word
Journal my reflection
Remember the words
Share the words

10 May 2013

We are thinking of buying a new property.

But I felt uneasy with the commitment in the legal fee, stamp duties and etc.

What is the purpose?

The purpose is to generate passive income through Rental. What is the yield? Given a 1 million dollars property, the rental yield is 3.5k per month or 42K per year or 4.2%. But wait minus the loan repayment with the assume you borrow 80% of the 1 mil, you are paying about 2.5K back to the bank per month. That reduces your return on investment by almost half.

Of course the bet is the upside capital appreciation of the property which can fetch big gains.

Given the sum of money which we have to pour into paying the up front payment and waiting for the property to TOP, $200k is not touch.

Of course the property is freehold - good investment with good rental otential.

I deceided to call off the deal, went for a good lunch, save the legal and stamp duties.

I deceided to put the sum intended for the property into forex investment, which conservatively I can yeild 2% per month or at least 12% per year!

I fel no peace with the property deal, which I submit to the Lord in prayer earlier this week. Let my heart rest for the moment while I get ready again on the purchase look out in 2015.

Lord Thank you. amen.

8 May 2013; Exodus 19

Exodus 19

‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you  will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.

Indeed I am tired. How then to strike a balance between work and purposes.

I like the verse "on eagles' wings". How I wish to be soring with God on eagles' wings. When the ocean rise and thunder roar, I will soar with you above the cloud.

Let you wisdom guide me and your peace be with me throughout today and the week. Amen.

7 May 2013; Exodus 18

Exodus 18

17 Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. 19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes to him. 20 Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave.

The key point is Wear Out  and Teach Them

If I were to do everything myself, because I am like Moses who has access to God or is the only one that is the most capable -> I will wear myself out.

Instead, my time should be spend with God not the running of the every details things. That is the principle of slow down - slow down in the things FOR God.

In my work, let me find way to slow down.

The second approach is to teach - teach as to disciple more of you so that these people can handle the matters and skills set themselves.

The final prayer is for and so that I cam be with God more. Amen.

Monday, May 06, 2013

6 May 2013; Exodus 17

Exodus 17

The Israelites fought with the Amaleks. Moses sent Joshua to fight, while he himself, Aaron and Hur pray.

Moses pray with his hand lifted up. Aaron and Hur help him to do so and ensure the victory of the battle.

All major battles are fought with prayer. Moses did it not alone.

I have started the week with a jog and time alone with God. I have too backlog to clear. BUT I have my God. I put my trust and my task to my Lord. I pray for the completion of the task, let me have results so that I can quickly wrap up the project and move on.

Lord I want to slow down. Together with Rach we have decided on an amount to sustain us monthly. Now I am about 1/3 of the target. I run because I want to continue to be healthy and fit for my family. I want to slow down to spend time with my family.

Lord lead me. I also put my plans for purchase a new property to you. Give my compelling reasons to do so.

Amen.

2 May; Exodus 15

2 “The Lord is my strength and my song
    he has become my salvation.

v26 “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees,

This is the 2nd day after my birthday. How long have I not declare that the Lord is my strength and my song, how long have I not listen to the Lord, do what is right and pay attention to his command?

Soon the next birthday will come and soon a decade will past.

The message speaks for me, the Exodus is like me leaving Egypt for the promise land, leaving the land of slavery....

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

1 May 2013; Exodus 14

Exodus 14

The Egyptian pursue the Isralites. The Isralities has been following the pillar of cloud by day and the pilar of fire by night. Of course the people were afraid.

The command is then to be still (still in the heart and do not panic) because the Lord is going to fight the war for them and the people will be the witness of God's greatness.

The water is again parted - the people has seen that. The Isralites move through, and the Egyptian pursue. IN a special moment, God ask them to move on. The pillar of cloud and fire move backward and separated the Isralities and the Egyptian.

1. Obedience
2. Trust
3. Follow

Obedience
19 Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them,

God command, we followed. The pillar of cloud and fire is the way God lead. We followed. BUT when God say move on without the pillar of cloud and fire, we obey.

Trust
13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

There will always be anxiety and worries of life. Be still - because the Lord is going to fight the battle.

Follow
29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.

Without God, there will be no purpose. The Israelites do not know where they would be going next after Egypt.

Application
Today is my birthday. Start it right with God in obedience. Obedience come in hearing and waiting. That is way I start with the word in the morning. Put my worries and anxieties to God. This is through prayer. Lastly, just follow, knowing that the Lord has a big big purpose for me. Amen.

11 Apr 2013; Exodus 11

Exodus 11

The 9th plague of darkness and followed by God revelation on the 10th plague.

v7:that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.

I am disappointed that I am not promoted. But of course, I still have my increment and my pay has not stay stagnant.

What then - I pray. That the works of my hand is in favour with the Lord and that He will make a distinction between me and the rest of the colleagues.

I pray that the Lord will continue to supplement my pay with other sources of income from industrial projects - and of course my investment.

I pray for a cheerful and joyful heart for this year. Let not gloom and "relax..." let go and let God. Amen

Sunday, April 07, 2013

7 Apr 2013; Exodus 10

Exodus 10

This chapter is about the 8 and 9 plague.

v1-2: that I may show these signs of mine among them, and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.

Recently, the question on purposes was asked. I have another 15 more years or so to work. In cell, the same question. Rac ask the same question.

It should be clear that I as the first generation Christian in my household will continue to uphold and so that the generation to come continue to serve God. I hope to leave a legacy so that they can see and hear and continue to tell of their hearing about the signs and wonders of God - of what God has done in my life and then theirs. So that the next generations can know who is this God their Lord.

So how - application?

Serve God (v7) - dwell in the words of God, give praise and worship, pray

Commit - Church and cell and hopefully serve in the local church

Community - my reach out to the students, reach out to the economically less disadvantages and then overseas community service in China.

These I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.

4 Apr 2013; Exodus 9

Exodus 9

The first obvious sign of death came - the livestocks.

It was followed by boils - even the magician had boils and cannot even stand in front of Mosses.

The next massive destruction brings about a complete destruction to the economy - hail

Interestingly, hail has never occur in Egypt. - v24 such as had never been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

God gave a warning. Some Egyptian heed the advice - and bring their remaining livestock to safety. Other, I believe laughed because what is hail - never heard of and can not possible happen in this region.

God showed that He is indeed God of the earth, the economy, the weather...

I serve such a God - a God who demand worship but showed grace and not by fear.

This is the God whom I can lift up my worries to. Amen.

2 Apr 2013; Exodus 8

2 Apr 2013

Time and again the Pharaoh harden his heart. Many of his subject must have suffered because of his willfulness.

How many times then will you relent? Running time forward, the plagues cause Pharaoh his son, his first born.

The slaves are too much to give up.they are needed to build the empire. But when the plagues came, Pharaoh calculated his cost. Anyway it is going to be temporary. Moses always came to his help. When Pharaoh promise to let the Isaralties go, Moses will cry out to God and the plagues will be remove. Of course Pharaoh heart will still be harden.

But do not test the Lord your God and do not put Him to a test. Grace and mercy.

Ultimately, what do you want? It is the family - a leagacy that my children know God and fear God. The bondage has been broken for my family - from my father side and my mother side when I became the first Christian. Let the next generation be God fearing Christian and continue to be so.

As such, do not wait for plagues after plagues to come. the world has nothing to offer but he Lord has promise the promise land - an eternity in the Lord's kingdon - go for that.

1 Apr 2013: Exodus 10 Plagues

According to http://users.adam.com.au/bstett/BTenPlaguesEgypt78.htm the 10 plagues could be accounted and explain scientifically and has reasons supporting natural occurances.

However, Moses appeared before the Pharaoh before the presentation of each plague.

Therefore

"The Ten Plagues, by the Marr/Malloy explanation, were a rare sequence of natural events. Yet, Moses' appearances before Pharoah were perfectly orchestrated with the Plagues. It's like those movie scenes where someone about to be executed knows a solar eclipse is about to occur and wins his release by pretending to magically darken the sun!

The Ten Plagues therefore – if the scientific explanation moves us to accept the story – imply a behind-the-scenes-intelligence informed enough to direct Moses to act in perfect synchronicity with nature to achieve political and religious goals."

1 Apr 2013; Exodus 7

30 Mar 2013

The Lord is real. Today, I witness a salvation – Rachael’s student.

Exodus 7:14:25 God stuck Egypt with the first plague. It turned the water in the Nile to blood and nobody could drink of the water. Pharaoh doesn’t care because the magician could do the same trick. The people suffered but still managed to survive by digging along the Nile for water to drink.

How many times will I need to repent? Or do I need to come back to God. Let the world go, so that your soul can come back to God.

The harvest is ripe. God is grace. If he had killed off the water source, Egypt would perish in 1 week. It takes another 9 plagues before Pharaoh lets the people go.

I need to come back to God. I need to know what I need to establish in my family, so that we will serve the Lord our God.

I pray therefore, God first, family unity second, place in me a heart for soul. Amen.

Exodus 7; 27 Mar 2013

Exodus 7:1-13

The hardening of hearts.

I like to ask about unfairness that arises from the bible - why did God harden the heart of Pharaoh? If he has soften his heart, the Israelites will be freed and will be able to leave and journey to the promise land.

Of course, as a Christian, if I am asked the same question, the answer is: So that the people may see and know that their Lord is their God. God repeated that many times. God will show the people the signs and wonders and miracles that bring the people out of Egypt. It is not Pharaoh but God, so that the people see and remembers. Anyway, the Pharaoh will not let the people go. Even after the 10 plagues, he still seek vengeance by sending an army to pursue - unwilling to let God wins.

Background, I have always been graded second - second class, top 20%, miss a A to get a scholarship. I don't believe in fairness and equal opportunities. As such, I can simple be in the shoe of the Pharaoh instead of the Israelites - meaning I can be the one God choose to harden the heart so that someone may knows the Lord their God. It will be nice to see God hardening someone heart in order that I have an encounter with God. There is always that what if and I know that I may not be in that best position - but second.

I am running out of working ages. It will be another 10-15 years. Moses knew God when he was 40, when he was 80 he led the people out. Never too old - good encouragement. But remember the what if - so it is good to be a little pessimistic.

What do I want for the last lap? Build an empire, a career chase... Probable not and too late too little time left. Well, God, let me enjoy this last lap doing what is best for me - it should be about you, your heart beat - your people that they may know that you are God, their Lord. Amen

Exodus

Exodus Chapter 1 and 2

The world that forgets, but the God who remembers.

Joseph and his family moves to Egypt,  Then Joseph died, and all his brothers and all that generation. But the people of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, so that the land was filled with them.

Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.
(Exodus 1:6-8 ESV)

It looks great, it sound great in pursuing the wealth, the glory and power of this world, but the generation that comes will forget what we have done. What is that purposes?

During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew.
(Exodus 2:23-25 ESV)

Our God remembers. Therefore it is right and worth to work and do the things of God. What is it then?

In chapter 1 the people were oppressed, but there is no word of cry out. The first mentioned of cry out is in chapter 2. When the people do so, God remenbers.

To start - ask God and offer ourselves for service.

I have another 15-20 years of my working life. Do the things I like and like what I am doing. What is it in God's kingdom that we are doing then?

23 Jan 2013; Luke 17:11-18

Luke 17: 11-18

Jesus cleansed 10 leapers, but only 1 came back to thank Him.

We need God because He can heal

This is the starting desire for us to come to God. The leapers wanted to be healed, so they come to Jesus. Or is it because of peer pressure, I am one of the group of ten that comes to Jesus, so might as well follows.

God loves us.

Regardless of our motive, all the 10 leapers were healed.
When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed.
(Luke 17:14 ESV)

We love God

Only 1 came back to thank Jesus.
Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

(Luke 17:18-19 ESV)

Was the rest not well? Yes, then why Jesus said that this leaper's faith has made him well?

All are physically healed v14. But this last leapers was healed because of His faith. What is the difference?

I am sick, my doctor gave me medicine and I am well.
I am sick, I prayed and I am well - my faith healed me.

This leaper is different - not because he is healed by faith, then he gave thanks to God.

His faith grew as he saw that he has been healed. He want to know ths God, he went and gave thanks. His faith grew further.

The starting point is a desire to know God. The healing or miracle is the seed to the leaper to know God.

Likewise, lots of miracle does not bring us closer to know God, if there is not a desire.

How then to have that desire - go and see and taste to know that the Lord is good.

4 Jan 2013;

Third day of work.

Busy, productive, but has to focus. That is doing things I ought to do rather than spending wasted time in gaining irrevalent tasks. It will also be useful to translate these wasted time to sleep.

Lord help me in this area.

Luke 12:35 - get dressed and get your lamp burning.
You do not know when the hour Christ is coming. Therefore build what is necessary, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be.

2 Jan 2013; Luke 12:13-24

Luke 12:13-34

Do not worry or anxoius.

The verses is on the parable of the rich fool and it is on not to be anxious and worry about what the world comes next.

The rich fool plans and strategies for the next big move, but Jesus say why? has God not given you enough? It is not about not triving for the best because God has bless the rich man with good harvest. His grace is sufficient, so why not consider the goodness of God and give thanks.

In all things, be not anxious or to worry.

Luke 12:34 for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

This year, me and my household will serve you in the Lord. Go where the treasure is and that is in the business of God.

I pray that you will guide us in study of your word (which is eternal), give service in God (who is eternal) and work in the harvest for the sould of man (which is eternal). Basically, these are eternal treasures. Amen.
