15 Jan 2015; Isa 7:10-17
The Sign of Immanuel
Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz, “Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the LORD to the test.”
(Isaiah 7:10-12 ESV)
I contrast this when God ask Solomon for a "wish". Ahaz did not ask what to ask. Gideon asked for signs so that he can be excuse from war.
I wondered if I am in Ahaz position, I don't have signs to ask for because I have doubt.
And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also?
(Isaiah 7:13 ESV)
Isaiah answerd that Ahaz was filled with too much fear. His sight was blinded. God was absent. Not only that Ahaz fear God for the wrong reason, he knew he was not right with God, not in a position to asked of God.
And God answered, for unto ask a son will be given and unto us a Son will be born. His name shall be called Emmanuel.
Where is God in your heart? Has I been straying too far away that God is no longer presence? Then suddenly in a midst of trouble, God intervene and help. I did not even ask, because I have no God. There is no longer a need to put trust in God, for He seem too impossible.
Therefore, I determine and ask that God change my heart, that I first draw back to Him and near to Him, each day and everyday. Amen.
