Acts 18:24 Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, [5] he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27 And when he wished to cross to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, he greatly helped those who through grace had believed, 28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing by the Scriptures that the Christ was Jesus.
The talents that Apollos has - "eloquent", the discipline he has - "competent in the Scriptures", added with the discipleship training he has - "instructed in the way of the Lord", plus the annointing of the Holy Spirit, bear the fruit - "spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus.
The talents is what Apollos has (borned with it) but the competent in the Scriptures coems from a discipline to excel. The discipleship is what we can get from mentoring (from man), but the gift of the Holy Spirit is from God.
Form comes with discipline to build a capital to lay the Foundation to store up the capacity. Capital may not necessary be borned with, but through discipline we through a consistent and continuing doing, we can also builds the capital. Competent in the Scriptures come with the discipline to read and engage God's word daily and seek the giver of the word.
Added to knowing is also training. We don't try to be disciple, we train to be disciple. I pray and ask for someone to mentor and instruct me two years ago. God bless me with Paul. But more importantly, God has given us a spiritual instructor - the comforter that Jesus promise and that is the Holy Spirit.
With the foundation comes the freedom, but more importantly, the fruit of the freedom - the results of the discipline and all is for the work and the glory of God. It is also for living out a life in God.
I pray for continuation to work in my discipline in seeking God and his word and thus producing the work for the kingdom of God.
I need to watch and be reminded not to allow the seed of sins to sap and be able to grow in my closet and ruin the walk with God.
