Mat 20:20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. 21 And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Say that these two sons of mine are to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.” 22 Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.” 23 He said to them, “You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” 24 And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. 25 But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, [3] 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, [4] 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Who is the sons of Zebedee? Mat 4:21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.

Also today, reading from the last chapter in John 21:20 Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who had been reclining at table close to him and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?” 21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”

Jesus had alaready told Peter - follow me, but there seem somthing that Peter is missing out. That disciple that Jesus loved - seemed to be threathening Peter of his position and his status. Jesus loved this disciple so much that He revealed to him who is going to betray Him. During the morning sessions, Jesus asked Peter three times to follow Him. Events and the heart of man - the longing for favour, power and status - brought Peter to a wrong motive of heart.

Check our motive and our heart of following Jesus - it is not to gain the seating at the right or the left of Jesus. Peter was aware of this and should one of the disciple gain such a seat, it may not be him. So what - was Jesus answer to Peter.

Jesus need to restore Peter. As for the disciple - he loved Jesus. But for Peter because of his previous denial, Peter need to recover the lost heart. Jesus did so. Jesus was concern for the lost and in this case Peter.

forget about the work - the gain in status or power. Simply - being a disciple of Jesus is to love Him and follow Him. That disciple has loved Jesus and was following "them". It was not so for Peter and Jesus because of the care, the concern, the love - did what He ought to - asked Peter to love Him and follow Him.

The world set the standard for your worth, your staus, you reputation etc, but the Lord set the heart. All He want is for us as disciple of Christ to love Him (take up the cross daily) and follow Him.

Two actions and these I pray that I take them to the heart, because these actions was not for our physical acts to man to see, but an action of the heart towards the Lord. If you love me feed and tend my sheep. I pray for such opportunity each day, such that I will tend and feed your sheep, love you and follow you each day.
